IN MEMORIAM…

Officer Kirk A. Griess

On Friday, August 10, 2018, at approximately 9:01 A.M., Officer Kirk A. Griess, ID 15810, was conducting a traffic stop behind a Saturn Vue on the right shoulder of westbound Interstate 80 east of Manuel Campos Parkway. A Chevrolet pickup, driven by a distracted driver, traveled onto the shoulder and struck Officer Griess, his departmental motorcycle, and the Saturn. Officer Griess suffered major injuries and was transported to NorthBay Medical Center where, despite the valiant efforts of the paramedics and medical professionals, Officer Griess succumbed to his injuries. Officer Griess faithfully served the people of California as a CHP officer for 19 years.
